Building project

Land Purchase

Thanks to generous donations Calvary Zion Childrens' Home has purchased some land where they are building a bigger, more comfortable home for the children. They currently live in a four bedroom house so their conditions are cramped and there is little privacy or space to play. The house is rented and the monthly rent payment of £200 per month is a drain on what little money is available.

Tanja and Reiner Fischer from Germany raised enough to allow Calvary Zion to buy 2.5 acres of land on which to build the new home.

This new home will have more space and a more homely atmosphere for the children. Some of the land will be cultivated which will mean a constant supply of fresh fruit and vegetables for the children. They may also have room for chickens and goats to provide meat and eggs. This would reduce the monthly cost of feeding the children and the surplus could be sold at the local market which would generate an income.

Building

A fantastic effort by Tom Greaves means we were able to send out £15,000 to pay for construction materials.
Here's the story so far about the construction project

Sept 2008: The land was cleared and a bore hole for water dug. The next stage was to build the security wall and get the irrigation system in place.

Dec 2008: the perimeter wall was built and in January 2009 construction of the first house started.

June 2009: One of our supporters visited Calvary Zion and supplied these photos of the building in progress.

The new building will give the children more space and more privacy and a more homely atmosphere.

The plan is to eventually be able to provide a home for even more children, but in smaller groups.

The project will also generate employment for the area for local people during the construction and on an ongoing basis. It is policy to employ single mothers to care for the children. This gives them accommodation, medical care and schooling for their children as well as an income. The farm will need to employ a farm manager and labourers.
